Photography

From its invention in the late 1830s through today, photography has enabled artists, journalists, scientists, and the broad public to share images created by capturing light chemically or electronically. One of the earliest forms of photography, the daguerrotype, reached India by 1840, within a year of its invention in France. While, for much of the 20th century, photography did not have the same status and value in the art field as painting and sculpture. Today photographs and photo-based works are integral to contemporary art. This video explores the history of photography in India from its beginnings to today.
